Windhorse Publications ‘Stay At Home Sale’

It is time to launch our May Stay at Home Sale. This month we’ve selected five of our most recent paperback titles. Though the books are varied, the author of each one draws on a lifetime of Buddhist practice and a commitment to explore the relevance of the Dharma in a particular sphere.

Paramananda is a wonderful meditation teacher. In his book The Myth of Meditation, he draws on two strands of practice that aren’t often brought together, but which open a warm possibility of integration and flourishing. The first is the deep embodiment that meditation needs and nurtures. And the second is the imaginal or metaphorical nature of human experience. This book was £12.99, and is now on sale for £8.99.

The second title in the sale is by Vajragupta who, in this delightful little book, reflects on 25 years of doing solitary retreats. Wild Awake: Alone, Offline and Aware was £9.99, and is now reduced to £6.66. When so many of us are more solitary, and when nature is flourishing while we are under lockdown, this book can guide us in how to be mindful in nature and explore the wilderness within.

One of our most popular authors is Vimalasara. With fellow author Paramabandhu she has developed a way of working with compulsion that is simple, powerful and kind. Eight Step Recovery: Using the Buddha’s Teachings to Overcome Addiction is used in recovery groups around the world to address a range of addictions. Originally published in 2015, we released a new expanded edition in 2018. This book is reduced from £13.99 to £9.33.

Shantigarbha is an order member who has worked with conflict and its resolution for decades. He trains others in Non-Violent Communication (NVC) and his first book, published in 2018, is I’ll meet you there: A Practical Guide to Empathy, Mindfulness and CommunicationThe regular price is £11.99, and it has been reduced to £7.99 during May.

The last of our titles is by the Theravadin monk and scholar Anālayo. You may have encountered his writings on the Satipatthana sutta. In this book, published in 2018, he draws on early discourses in Pali and Chinese to write a biography of the historical Buddha through his sayings and reflections on meditation. Each chapter includes suggestions to support your practice. A Meditator’s Life of the Buddha was £13.99 and is now £9.33.

We’re offering free postage on all books at the moment. And if you sign up for our free membership, you get an extra 10% off these books and any other print or e-Books from our site (excluding Complete Works Subscriptions).

There’s never been a better time to read!

With all best wishes,

Jordana

I first became interested in Buddhism as a teenager from a chance encounter with a book found in my school library. I was immediately struck by how Buddhism taught that I could change how I experience the world and that I could grow as a person. However, it wasn’t until many years later at the Sheffield Buddhist centre, that I began to commit myself fully to Buddhist practice as I saw that practicing Buddhist teachings was having a very positive impact on my life and on the lives of others.

I was delighted to join the Still Learning Team in November 2018. My previous work has been as a teacher and as an artist and I feel privileged to be able to bring those skills together with my passion for Buddhism in order to teach children and young people about Buddhism.

Aryadasa

I first came into contact with Buddhism in my final year of university when I attended an introductory course at the Sheffield Buddhist Centre. I was instantly captivated by the revolutionary yet practical nature of the Dharma (teachings of the Buddha).

I began to meditate and apply Buddhism into my daily life and found that it actually worked! I had started to view the world differently and in a way that made me happier. I gained great confidence by this and became a committed Buddhist practitioner soon afterwards.

I enjoy sharing with others what I have learnt and how Buddhism has transformed me so I was delighted to join the Still Learning team in October 2013.

Buddhist Artefacts

Suitable for all Key Stages A fun activity for all ages. Explore a range of traditional Buddhist artefacts. Can you guess what they might be used for? Pupils and teachers love the hands-on approach of this game.

Ethics and Kamra

We have a range of exercises and activities, depending on ages and ability levels, exploring Buddhist ethics and their implications for how we might live as Buddhists.

The Life of the Buddha

How did the Buddha become the Buddha? Who was he before? What is enlightenment?

An understanding of the Buddha’s life story is an indispensable introduction to the religion. We draw out the key aspects using a beautiful painting that depicts the different events from the story.

The Three Jewels

We often theme our tours and visits around the Three Jewels of Buddhism, the Buddha, the Dhamra and the Sangha. Find out why the Three Jewels are common and central to all schools of Buddhism.

Stilling Activity

Very popular with both students and teachers, this exercise will give you a taste of what it’s like to meditate.
