As we enter a future of increased physical isolation finding skilful ways to connect online as a Sheffield Sangha is becoming more important.
Slack is a simple way for all the Sangha to stay connected and to find out about upcoming events and Centre news.
Contact us to sign up.
At the Sheffield Buddhist Centre we’ve updated some of the activities at the Centre in line with the new lockdown regulations:
- Sangha night will be on Zoom only (starting from today Tuesday January 5)
- Groups won’t be able to meet either inside or outside the Centre
- We can still meet one other person in the Centre garden
- The morning meditation will carry on being open for people to attend in person.
It is still allowed for people to attend “places of worship” for ”communal worship” but “prayer or study groups” are not permitted.
We’ve interpreted this to mean that the type of discussion groups that we hold on Sangha night aren’t possible at the moment so we have reluctantly decided that Sangha night will be on zoom only for now.
- You are required to wear a mask in the building
- Keep 2m socially distanced in the building & grounds
- We will record the details of everyone coming into the Centre for Track and Trace.
- If you are experiencing symptoms of Covid-19 or have been in contact with someone with Covid do not to come to the Centre until the NHS advises you that it is safe to do so.
We are doing all we can to set up and implement Covid secure protocols but ultimately it is the responsibility of each individual to make the decision to come to our in person events or not. Where possible we will be offering an online option.

7:00 am - 9:30 pm
13 - 13Mar
7:00 am - 9:30 pm
You’re invited to a Sheffield YUBS day of collective practice as part of the national young Buddhists weekend retreat, ‘The Taste of Freedom’. Where possible, we want to get together and connect in person, so we want to invite you to a day of collective practice on Saturday 13th March. We’ll meditate together, Aryadasa is giving a talk on the taste of freedom, there will also be a meditation workshop, discussion and evening ritual. Lots of opportunities to practice together in person at the Buddhist centre! If you would like to do the rest of the retreat, you’re welcome to Zoom in from home but if you can only do one day then make sure to come for these Saturday events in person.
‘The three fetters – of habit, of superficiality, and of vagueness – are broken by means of Insight, that is, by means of knowledge and vision of things as they really are… by our becoming creative, committed, and clear. When Insight arises, one enters the Stream, the Stream that leads directly to Enlightenment… one becomes a true individual. And as a true individual, one can experience vimutti, one can enjoy the taste of freedom.’ – The Taste of Freedom, 1979, Urgyen Sangharakshita
Drawing inspiration from Sangharakshita’s rousing (and much-loved) 1979 lecture, we’ll meditate together, hear short talks, gather in discussion groups and do ritual together with other young Buddhists from across the UK and Europe.
What you need to do for a taste of freedom:
- Book on to the retreat via the Adhisthana website https://adhisthana.org/retreat-calendar/2020/sub30-taste-of-freedom/
- If you can’t make the Friday or Sunday… sign up anyway
- Tell us you are coming for the in-person sessions at the Buddhist Centre (see below for details)
- Enjoy a day of Dharma practice together with YUBS!

- 7pm – 9.30pm Coming together then our version of 7.30pm ‘groups’ followed by ritual all together
